Join Marah for this fun and palyful mixed media floral class...the students will get to choose their colors and patterns of the flowers so that the completed masterpiece has their personality showing through and through

Build an Owl- Wet Clay Class With Christie

This class is rather nostalgic for me. I used to love to play with clay as a kid. There is something so magical about painting glazes on the clay... firing the pieces and seeing how much the glaze changes into gorgeous colors. I am super excited that the art lounge is going to start offering ceramic classes here for young and old alike. This sweet Owl is a great starting point for the young artist. they will learn to layer the clay, create texture and glaze the clay while its wet....that in itself is perfect for kids. They will pick up their finished pieces a few days later and witness the magic of glazes!

Suggested ages 6-9ish (please note this is a suggestion, younger kids would be fine with an adult)

Art Journal Class Series #6 Silhouettes

Art Journaling Classes are  some of the Most popular and most requested classes here at The Art Lounge. Our monthly series has a few open spots you are welcome to nab up.

This months focus will be silhouettes and masks. Who didnt love those iconic Ipod commercials back in the early 2000's with their dancing silhouettes and crazy bright colored backgrounds. This is a super fun very easy technique that makes your pages look as if you created a masterpiece.

Ly’s Mixed Media Series: Tim Holtz’s Distress

Wednesday, May 28^th 6-10pm $40

 

Join Ly Le each month in her Mixed Media Technique Journal Series where you will learn loads of techniques and DIY tutorials that will focus on a particular medium and all the different ways you can use them in both mixed media and scrapbooking, all while making your own 7x9 art journaling page. You’ll also receive a kit catered to each month’s topic, and step-by-step instruction sheets that you can store right inside your journal for quick and easy referencing. Some topics include Acrylic Mediums, Monoprinting & Print Making, Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft, Pan Pastels, and more. Classes will be held from 2-5pm on the fourth Saturday of each month. Join the series at any time, take only the classes you like, or take them all!

 

In this month’s class, we will be focusing on Tim Holtz’s Distress product line. Ly will show you how make a fabulous patchwork journal page featuring all the things you love about the Distress family including inks, stains, paint, markers, and so much more. You will also learn how to incorporate basic art mediums and other Ranger products to build this multi-layered and dimensional page. This class is jammed packed with lots of embellishments and goodies and tons of techniques from Tim’s Compendium of Curiosities that you won’t want to miss.

 

Supplies Lists:

The supplies list will differ slightly each month depending on what topic or medium is covered that month. Ly will provide everything you need in class for you to experiment and play, including her infamous treasure chest. She wants to give you the opportunity to learn how to use the product in class before you decide to invest in it. So, please don't ever feel that you have to go out and buy something you are not sure you want to invest in yet. However, if you already own the items on the list it would be helpful if you bring them to class so you don't have to wait to share items. With that being said, Ly will provide two supplies lists… a Basic Supplies List containing supplies that you will need for each and every class and a Monthly Supplies List containing supplies that you will need for that month only. Please note: The journal and starter kit is only included in the first month. After that, the journal and starter kit is available for purchase separately, but is not required.

Mommy Makes Series with Iris and Natalia

The Art Lounge has its way of blessing me...my customers give me much more joy I think, than I give them.  Iris and her 5 month old son, Oliver visit The Art Lounge on a regualr basis. She paints incredible pieces that are so indicative of her european roots while I get to enjoy her sweet son Oliver. Its during these sessions that I have been lucky enough to get to know Iris better, We began to realize how much we have in common with our love of DIY and the need to foster a creative life and my granola roots and her granola ways.  So of course when Iris asked if she could teach a "Mommy Makes" series...how could I resist! 

May 19th will be Iris and Natalies first class,  for new moms and mommy's to be...our unique environment allows you to be creative with your babies at your side. Granola baby fans THIS class is for you!

Art Abandonment -spreading the word and spreading joy.

I am an Artist Trading card making Fiend!

I love talking to my art lounge guests...you never know what might come from a conversation, a meeting of the minds. recently in one of those amazing conversations the idea came up of art abandonment with a little hint of where the art came from....so I am making Artist Trading Cards and abandoning  them like little treasures to be found by the community.

Hopefully people let us know when they find the little art pieces...that is half the fun.

My goal is to abandon at least a hundred ATC's a month...who knows what might come of it....I am hoping that it helps people find The Art Lounge and that it gets our community inspired to make and abandon art. I dont have a lot of money to spend on marketing to i am trying to be as creative as I can. Its going to take a village to raise this business and a community to make it thrive.

It has been so hot around here for the past couple ofdays that i decided to paint a cool fish painting to make me feel like i was swimming with the fishes....i am still hot as heck, but I love my little fish

He is drawn on water color paper and painted with Twinkling H20's...even if you think you can draw you CAN! its SUPER easy when you follow Marahs tips and tricks.
